On one hand — excitement: "it does this in seconds!" On the other — frustration: "write it in block such-and-such, b-20, t-3..." and the painful editing of the result.

It seems AI has become digital dopamine for many: instant answers, the illusion of progress, micro-stress from imperfect results. And this cycle repeats. But the most troubling thought isn't about efficiency — it's about the trap we might all fall into.

Trap #1: The Illusion of Efficiency

You'd think the tool would speed things up. But research reveals a paradox: even experienced developers can slow down by 19% when using AI assistants, all while remaining confident that it helped them. Imagine what happens to a beginner? The promised "magic wand" turns into a swamp that's hard to escape without a foundation to verify against.

Trap #2: The Beginner's Snare and the "Competency Trap"

For junior specialists, AI is a double danger. First, it creates a "sunk cost trap": you've already spent time trying to explain the task to AI, and it feels wasteful to give up, even though doing it yourself would have been easier. Then, after failing, a person risks getting permanently stuck in the "competency trap" — abandoning the technology and retreating to old, less effective methods, never learning to truly leverage AI.

Trap #3: The Social Paradox and the Loss of Depth

Using AI often invites hidden judgment. Researchers at the Fuqua School of Business note that colleagues who use AI may be seen as less competent, even if their work objectively improves. This kills a culture of experimentation. And more importantly, easy access to answers risks weakening our critical thinking, memory, and deep analysis "muscles" — especially for those still building those skills.

So what's the way out? My thesis.

AI is neither an employee nor an oracle. It's a force multiplier. Its power emerges only when paired with human judgment, expertise, and responsibility. The structure of this post and the selection of research is a clear example of such symbiosis. This isn't content generation "from a vacuum" — it's amplification and organization of my own thoughts. AI won't replace us, because it can't handle what requires genuine empathy, creativity, and ethics. But it can make us stronger — if we learn to steer it, rather than submit to its "dopamine" cycles.

Question for you: How do you use AI in your work?
